Hi-tec dog coat for extreme conditions

GENERAL INFORMATION
- ARCTIC SERIES: Dog coats are made of THERMA STRETCH POLARTEC®
- - windproof and water resistant
- - slick finish on outside so snow does not stick to it
- - fleece inside for added warmth
- SIZE: Measure the length of the dog from the top of the shoulder blades to the top of the pelvis bones. Coats have Velcro straps for adjusting the girth. See Fitting Information for more detail.
- Coats are used OVER the harness.
COMPLETE PROTECTION AGAINST WIND
- The unique construction of these coats provides a tight seal against penetration of wind and cold.
-
- They provide complete protection of all body parts that are vulnerable to frostbite such as the penis sheath, scrotum, nipples and flanks.
-
- Moisture does not collect inside the coat as a result of the dog's respiration during resting, so the dogs fur stays dry.
- (This can be a serious problem with conventional dog coats. The dog curls up and tucks it's nose under the edge of the coat, and the moisture from the dog's breath builds up under the coat.)
-
- Dog coats stay in place and do not rotate around body, which prevents the need for constant adjustment.
TROUBLE-FREE URINATION FOR BOTH MALES and FEMALES
- Male coats have a unique urination tube that allows them to urinate freely at all times. The fabric is not in direct contact with the dog's body so the potential dangerous build-up of frozen urine in contact with penis sheath and scrotum is prevented. Urine falls freely onto a waterproof surface and is funneled out of tube located below the end of the penis. An occasional flick of the tube is all that is required to prevent icing up.
- Female coats have an opening specifically-located for urination
- Dogs can urinate and defecate while running.
SPRINT VERSION - for males
Sprint style Dog coat for males is designed the same as our regular one but without the pee tube.
FIELD-TESTED BY TOP MUSHERS in IDITAROD, YUKON QUEST and SPRINT RACES
Jacques and Magali Philip, Jeff King, Rick Swenson and Karin Franzen (Taiga Mushing Supplies) all were instrumental in developing and testing this unique dog coat.
FITTING INFORMATION
The size depends on the length of the dog. Measure the length of the dog from the top of the shoulder blades to the top of the pelvis bones. Coats have Velcro straps for adjusting the girth.
SIZE LENGTH WEIGHT (lb)
XS 17" 38 and less
S 18" 38 - 45
M 19" 45 - 55
L 20" 55 - 65
XL 21" 65 and up
The back leg opening should be about 1-2" looser than girth of thigh. When it is too tight, excessive chafing may occur. If is it too tight, but the length is right, the dog needs custom size (bigger leg opening).
Make sure that the top of dog's penis is located in 2” area of pee tube indicated on the picture above (Pee tube fitting diagram). If the penis is too short/long, than the dog needs custom size.
Every time you put the coat on your male dog, make sure the penis is not constricted. We recommend lining the pee tube with a piece of fur, if any rubbing occurs in/around pee tube area.
The Velcro strap above the front of the pee tube is supposed to be tight. When it is loose, urine may get inside of coat.
Please, watch your dog closely if the coat is rubbing (back inside of legs, around front legs,..). If it is rubbing excessively, the dog needs custom size.
We have tried very hard to design the coats for the best fit possible, but every dog is different, and it is impossible to make it so it will fit all dogs. We believe, that this fit is right for the majority of sled dogs, but we will be happy to custom fit to meet your needs.
